Child Protection Policy

1. Introduction

Future Bridge Tech Foundation (FBTF) is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all children we engage with through our programs, projects, and partnerships. This Child Protection Policy outlines our principles, standards, and procedures for safeguarding children from all forms of abuse, exploitation, neglect, and discrimination.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

·         Promote the safety, dignity, and well-being of every child in our programs and communities.

·         Ensure that all FBTF staff, volunteers, partners, and contractors understand their roles in protecting children.

·         Establish clear procedures for preventing and responding to child abuse and exploitation.

·         Align FBTF’s work with Ghana’s Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and international child protection standards.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all FBTF staff, volunteers, consultants, board members, interns, partner organizations, and third parties. It covers all activities, events, and programs involving or impacting children, whether in person or online.

5. Definition of a Child

According to Ghanaian law and international standards, a child is any person below the age of 18 years.

6. Forms of Child Abuse

Physical abuse, Emotional abuse, Sexual abuse, Neglect, Child labor and trafficking, Online exploitation.

7. Responsibilities

Board of Directors: Oversees implementation and accountability.
Executive Director: Ensures policy implementation and appoints Child Protection Focal Person (CPFP).
Staff and Volunteers: Sign the Code of Conduct and report concerns.
Partners and Contractors: Must comply with FBTF’s policy.

8. Preventive Measures

Recruitment and Screening: Background checks and references.
Training: Regular child protection training.
Safe Program Design: Risk assessment and supervised participation.
Media: Written consent required for images or stories of children.

9. Reporting and Response Procedures

Reports must be made to the CPFP or senior staff and may be anonymous. All reports are treated confidentially, investigated promptly, and referred to authorities if necessary.

10. Child Protection Code of Conduct

All FBTF representatives must treat children respectfully, avoid inappropriate behavior, report concerns, and not share images without consent.

11. Confidentiality

All child protection information is handled with strict confidentiality and shared only for investigation or protection purposes.

12. Disciplinary Action

Violations may result in suspension, termination, or referral to law enforcement.

13. Monitoring and Review

This policy shall be reviewed every two (2) years or as needed. Feedback from staff and partners will guide improvements.
